Gary Whitman
Gary Whitman joined the Fort Worth Symphony in 1993 as third clarinet/bass clarinet. In addition to his duties with the FWSO, he is Professor of Clarinet and Division Chair of Woodwinds at Texas Christian University. Active as a recitalist, he has presented performances at ClarinetFest conferences in the United States and Europe. He has also presented masterclasses in Peru, Belgium, Puerto Rico, Cuba and China. He has performed new works in Weill Recital Hall in New York City, the “Cliburn at the Modern” series in Fort Worth, and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center in Shanghai, China. He has recorded on the Albany and Parma record labels with Trio Con Brio, a TCU faculty trio of clarinet, viola and piano. In 2009 TCU awarded him the Chancellor’s Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar. Past-President of the International Clarinet Association, Mr. Whitman is an artist-clinician for D’Addario Woodwinds and Buffet Crampon, Inc. When he is not teaching at TCU, or performing with the Fort Worth Symphony at Bass Hall, Mr. Whitman enjoys traveling with his wife, Cindy Lansford, retired band clinician and consultant. They reside in Keller, Texas with their rescue terrier mix, Archie.
